What Do City, State, County and Federal Governments Do?

SPARK has benefited from a long time partnership with commissioners from Harris County Precincts 1, 2 & 4. These commissioners have provided funds and in-kind contributions for schools in their precincts.

Houston City Council Members have attended SPARK groundbreaking and dedication ceremonies and have helped recruit volunteers. The Mayor's office provides office space and related supplies, which allows administrative costs to be kept to a minimum.

Since 1986, funding has also come from the City of Houston Department of Housing and Community Development in the form of Federal Block Grants. Federal money can be used on projects which qualify by census data.

SPARK has also received Federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding through Harris County for Harlem Elementary in Goose Creek CISD and Waller Junior High School in Waller ISD.
